Who Owns Denny’s?
Since January 2026, a private investor group that includes one of Denny’s own franchisees. After more than two decades on the stock market, the diner chain went private in a 620 million dollar deal.
That last part matters. Only a small share of Denny’s restaurants are run by the company itself. The new owners own the brand and the corporation, while the diner you visit is very likely owned by a local franchise operator.
The three buyers
| Buyer | Who they are |
|---|---|
| TriArtisan Capital Advisors | A US private equity firm founded in 2002 with previous restaurant investments. Its co-founder Rohit Manocha is part of the new board leadership. |
| Yadav Enterprises | A large restaurant operator run by Anil Yadav. It runs more than 310 franchise restaurants, including Denny’s, Jack in the Box and TGI Fridays, and owns Del Taco, Taco Cabana and Nick the Greek. |
| Treville Capital Group | An alternative asset manager founded in 2014 that finances growing companies. |
Why Denny’s went private
The deal was announced in November 2025, when Denny’s was struggling. Same store sales had fallen 2.9 percent in the third quarter of 2025, fewer customers were coming through the door, and the company was in the middle of closing around 90 underperforming restaurants.
The buyers offered 6.25 dollars a share, a 52 percent premium to where the stock had closed before the announcement. Shareholders approved it by a wide margin, with about 39.5 million shares in favor and 178,000 against.
Going private takes the chain out of the quarterly spotlight. A turnaround, with closures, remodels and menu changes, is easier to manage without reporting results to the market every three months. Chief executive Kelli Valade stayed in her role when the deal closed.
How big Denny’s is
| Brand | Restaurants | Franchised or licensed | Company run |
|---|---|---|---|
| Denny’s | 1,459 | 1,397 | 62 |
| Keke’s Breakfast Cafe | 78 | 55 | 23 |
| Total | 1,537 | 1,452 | 85 |
Figures are as of September 2025, just before the deal. Denny’s bought Keke’s, a Florida breakfast chain, in 2022, and Keke’s had been growing even while Denny’s sales slipped.
Who owned Denny’s before
Denny’s has had several owners since it began as Danny’s Donuts in Lakewood, California in 1953. The name story is in why is it called Denny’s.

Does anything change for customers?
Not directly. The menu, the Grand Slams and 24 hour opening at most locations stayed the same when the deal closed. What customers are more likely to notice over time is the closure of weaker restaurants and changes as the new owners work on bringing traffic back.
Current prices and the full lineup are on the Denny’s menu. Yadav Enterprises also runs Jack in the Box restaurants, and those prices are on the Jack in the Box menu.
