McDonald's has spent the last two years trying to shake off a reputation for being expensive, and the McValue menu was the answer. The result is a board with two speeds: a value tier where a full meal lands around five dollars, and a premium tier where a Double Bacon Quarter Pounder meal passes fourteen. Knowing which side of that line you are ordering from is most of the game.
Prices below are national in-store averages taken from the McDonald's app across several states. Roughly 95 percent of United States restaurants are franchise owned and set their own pricing, so the gap between a suburban store and a city centre one is wider here than at almost any other chain. App prices are consistently lower than counter prices.
McValue replaced the old Dollar Menu structure and works in three parts: a fixed price meal bundle, a buy one add one offer, and rotating deals that differ by market. The app is the only place the full set appears, and ordering the same food at the counter costs more.

Quarter Pounders are cooked from fresh beef, made to order, while the smaller patties are cooked from frozen in batches. That is the reason a Quarter Pounder takes longer at the window and tastes different from a McDouble even before you count the size.

The McDouble at $3.99 gives you two patties for less than two thirds the price of a Big Mac. If you are eating for value rather than for the sauce, it is the strongest order on the burger board.
McCrispy replaced the old Crispy Chicken Sandwich and uses a thicker fillet on a potato roll. The McChicken sits below it at nearly two dollars less with a smaller patty. Filet-O-Fish has been on the menu since 1962 and still uses a steamed bun, which is why it arrives softer than everything else.

The Sausage Burrito at $2.59 and 300 calories is the cheapest hot breakfast on the board, and the Egg McMuffin is the lowest calorie sandwich at 310. The Big Breakfast with Hotcakes is the highest calorie single item McDonald's sells at any time of day.
McCafe undercuts the coffee chains by a wide margin and that is the entire strategy. A medium brewed coffee at $1.99 costs less than half what the same size does at a specialist chain, and the frappes sit two dollars under a comparable blended drink elsewhere.

Removing cheese saves about 50 calories, dropping the Big Mac sauce saves around 90, and swapping medium fries for apple slices cuts more than 300 from a meal.
